Plan your journey to the heart of the Highlands — directions, parking, and access details to get you there with ease.
The bridge joining the village to the south side of the River Dee is closed due to structural damage from recent floods. Those travelling from the south on the B976 will require to cross the river either at Potarch Bridge (5 miles to the east) or Dinnet Bridge (3 miles to the west). Access is as usual on the A93. Please plan your journey with this in mind.

The Green, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Aboyne is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, located on the River Dee in Royal Deeside. It's situated about 30 miles (48 km) west of Aberdeen, on the A93 road, which is the main route between Aberdeen and Braemar. It's a picturesque spot, known for its Highland Games, outdoor activities, and proximity to the Cairngorms National Park.
From the North:
Travellers coming from Inverness or Elgin can take the A96 east toward Aberdeen, then turn south at Huntly onto the A97. Follow the A97 all the way to Dinnet, where you’ll join the A93 eastbound for a short drive into Aboyne. Alternatively, from Grantown-on-Spey, the A939 offers a scenic route through the Highlands via Ballater, then east along the A93 to reach Aboyne.
From the West:
From Aviemore or the central Highlands, the A95 leads to Grantown-on-Spey, where you can take the A939 south over the Lecht Pass—a dramatic route in good weather. At Ballater, join the A93 and head east to Aboyne. For a more direct but longer journey, drive to Perth via the A9, then take the A90 north to Aberdeen and approach Aboyne via the A93 westward.
From the South:
If you're coming from Edinburgh or Glasgow, head north via the M90 to Perth, then continue on the A90 toward Aberdeen. Near Aberdeen, exit onto the B979 or A956 to join the A93 heading west through Banchory and along the River Dee to Aboyne. Travellers from Dundee can follow the A90 north to Aberdeen, then turn west onto the A93.
